Tragedy struck San Joaquin County in the early morning on October 23, 2012. According to published reports, a fatal accident occurred on Mariposa Road near the intersection of Carlton Road. A big-rig truck that was traveling eastbound on Mariposa Road lost control of its rear trailer. The out-of-control trailer veered into the westbound lane of the two-lane road. A Chevrolet truck that was traveling westbound was unable to avoid swiping the big-rig truck. At this same moment a Honda was also travelling westbound. Sadly, the driver of the Honda was unable to avoid the out-of-control big-rig truck and the two vehicles collided head-on.
The driver of the Honda sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim as 58-year-old Escalon resident Joan Lorraine Justice-Brown. Justice-Brown was an educational specialist with the San Joaquin County Office of Education. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of this tragic accident. One possibility is that unsecured cargo contributed to this accident. When cargo is unsecured or improperly loaded it can shift unexpectedly causing the truck driver to lose control. As this accident demonstrates, an out-of-control big-rig poses a deadly threat to any nearby motorists.
